Arts and Crafts Festival
Saturday and Sunday, September 17-18, 2022
10 am to 4 pm
At the West Side Community Garden’s first Arts and Crafts Festival since 2019, 26 artists and crafts-people will be displaying and selling their own hand-made work outside the Garden on 89th Street – including painting, various fabric arts, jewelry, photography, glasswork, ceramics, etc. (Cash sales only). Their names, and the kind of work each one does, are listed below.
Inside the Garden there will be a schedule of free arts-related events for both children and adults.
- Saturday, 11 am: the New York String Society/Statue of Liberty Band will present an orchestra concert for adults and children. In addition to a program of classical and popular music, a special feature will be the opportunity for children to “help” conduct the orchestra. Each participating child will leave with their own kid-friendly conductor’s baton.
- Saturday from noon to 2 pm: hands-on arts and crafts activities inside the Garden for young children.
- Saturday at 3:30 pm: the dancers of Ballet Hispanico’s Professional Studies Division, La Academica, will perform in the Garden. We’re thrilled to welcome our 89th Street neighbors!
- Sunday at 2 pm, a poetry reading will be hosted by David Elsasser, head of the Poetry Group of the West Side Arts Coalition. In addition to hearing Natalie Lardner and Robert Dickerson read their work, audience members will be able to sign up for a 5-minute slot to read their own poetry. Poets, here’s your chance to shine!
- Sunday at 4 pm, the weekend will wind up with a reception for the artists of all kinds.
