Dear Friends,

The West Side Community Garden thanks everyone for the time, energy and financial support that made 2017 another successful year!

Notable events included an expanded arts program with our first opera presentation, On Site Opera’s “La Finta Giardinieria” (The Secret Gardener), by Mozart, the relocation of the greenhouse at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in October, and strong attendance for our Benefit, Fourth of July Barbecue, and Movie Nights.

While there are too many individuals to mention, huge thanks again go to Tom Thies and Judy Robinson for guiding our flower and gardening programs, including the Tulip Festival in April and the tulip bulb planting weekend in November. The Tulip Festival program continues to be our greatest draw for volunteers and new members. Some 13,000 tulip bulbs and other spring bulbs were put in the ground by volunteers, families and Garden members. Eric Thirer provided expert management of our ongoing maintenance and physical improvements, and Sandy Owen and Lisa Sarajian managed our fundraising and financial planning.

This year’s music program organized by Randa Kirshbaum featured five concerts ranging from jazz to classical Spanish guitar in June and July. Josh Koehn and the Stag and Lion Theater troupe produced William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” with eight performances in July and August. Summer Movie Nights featured “La La Land” and “Lion”, curated by Daisy Lindo.

The Garden held its Annual Arts and Crafts Festival in September which included Amazing Danny the Clown, a dance performance by Ballet Hispanico, and a New York String Orchestra concert.

Finally, the Board thanks our President, Jackie Bukowski, who continues to be actively involved in every aspect of the Garden’s work, both publicly and behind the scenes.

We are so grateful to all of you for your support of the Westside Community Garden, and look forward to another great year growing this important Upper West Side community resource! Spring flowers are just around the corner.

We will be circulating our complete 2018 Calendar of Events shortly. Please mark your calendars for one important upcoming date in January, being held at our usual location, the 90th and Columbus (Northeast corner) St. Martins community room (Floor 2):
